Adventures at the Zoo!

A few weeks ago, someone invited me to join them in a nice trip to the Zoo. Obviously, I couldn't refuse such a wonderful proposition; getting away for a few days, to a place I've never been to and on top of that to visit the Zoo. I'm so in! I packed some frozen grapes for the 4 hours train ride and headed to this new adventure :)

The trip started bumpy with some 40 minutes delay due to some railwork, but once arrived all went great. The hotel was amazingly nice, it was sunny, and we got the most amazing ice-creams I've seen in a long long time. Unfortunately, I was too busy eating it to take a picture, but you get the idea (vanilla, chocolate and lemon ice-cream covered with cream and chocolate sprinkles...dreamy). Then dinner at the Potato Factory in Barefoot Alleyway and drinks at the Penguin King. Followed by some silly talk and a really refreshing beauty sleep session to be ready for the big day.

The next morning started early to avoid the burning sun as much as we could. 7:30 sharp we were up (well maybe 7:40/45) and ready for breakfast and a wonderful day at the Zoo!
By 9 we were at the gate anxiously looking for the penguins! Such lovely creatures, did you know once they mate, they mate for life. Monogamous par excellence, and such cuties...who could be a penguin!

Aren't they just the cutest thing ever!?
After the first contact with the "wild", we found ourselves in the amazing aquarium surrounded by the funkiest fish and the scariest crocs and snakes. We named a few, laughed and made a game out of trying to find the creatures in those dark dark cages...and I think we did a pretty good job. I'm surprised not many more people spend some time in Zoos, they are so much fun!
Anyhow, we saw plenty of animals from all over the world, including a monkey who'd just stolen a blanket and was searching for that perfect spot for his midday nap.

After a long and fun-filled day at the Zoo, we headed back to the hotel to refresh a little before heading out to dinner. This time an Italian, which was slightly disappointing. Ordered a calzone, looking forward to a crunchy nommy thing and what i got was barely cooked, but oh well. We sat in the terrace and a few minutes later a massive storm breaks out. We ended the night at an Irish pub and nighty night for us poor tired people!

Völkerschlachtdenkmal
On the last day we went to the Monument to the Battle of the Nations which has amazing views over the city, and is well worth all the stairs (they also have elevator but where would be the fun on going up on the elevator). And a little museum about the Napoleonic wars in the area.
After, we headed back and checked out and returned home (and this time we only had about 75 minutes delay!)

It was such an incredible trip, I wish it had been longer!
