For many, many years, when I lived in San Diego, I met this amazing woman.
She came from a place I had never heard of, Florianopolis (Brazil).
She was wild and exotic, she did whatever she could to seize the day, she was travelling the world enjoying every bit of it on her own!
She said I had to visit Florianopolis one day, not only cos the beaches are amazing down there, but also cos of the culture, food, and character of its people.
She said "there is no place like Florianopolis", I'll remember her passion for her hometown forever.
And even though I'm sure there are other amazing places, she planted a curiosity seed in me that I haven't been able to satiate yet. Ever since I have been planning my trip there and these are my top tips.
The Ilha of Santa Catarina (Florianopolis) is famous for its stretches of white sand beaches, seafood, and traditional Azorean fishing villages. Is home to some of the most popular beaches among celebrities but also has some cozier, less visited areas.
The island is divided in five regions, north, east, south, west, and central. For the best experience it's best to avoid the north area of the island, where tourists and celebrities alike have grounded their nests.
If you are looking for the best waves to ride, the beaches on the east side, specially Galheta, Mole, and Joaquina are the perfect place to be.
However, if you're more the party type, you'll find yourselves at ease in the central area where the best nightlife in the Island can be found.
And in the south east, through old narrow picturesque seaside roads you can find amazingly well preserved traditional and colourful fishermen villages and the best seafood in Santa Catarina.
Whatever it is you are looking for, Florianopolis has something to offer!
Have you found your dream beach yet?? Let me know in the comments down below, I'm dying to explore the world one beach and mountain at a time, aren't you? :)
